2011 Mahindra Genio Pick Up TruckFor quite some time now, heavily camouflaged Mahindra Xylo Pick Up trucks have been seen doing the testing rounds. Finally, Mahindra launches this pick up truck based on the Ingenio platform and squarely aimed at the commercial market with one big change, the name. The Xylo moniker is dumped, lest the Xylo owners feel shortchanged at sharing mindspace with a goods vehicle, and instead, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the Mahindra Genio Pick Up Truck.
Available in a singe cab design, the Mahindra Genio is a 1.2 Tonne pick up truck that comes with a CRDe engine churning out 75 horses and 220 Nm of torque. For once, the designers at Mahindra have somehow managed to not make a Mahindra vehicle look fugly and the Genio in total contrast to most other Mahindra offerings actually manages to look likeable. Unlike most other similar offerings, the Genio will be available with a modicum of creature comforts for the driver amplifying Mahindra’s statement of “So what if it is a load lugger?”.
Folks following Mahindra’s range of CVs will remember the Mahindra Maxximo and the Gio also featuring decent creature comforts hitherto unseen in the segment. Similarly, the Genio is expected to be a class leader in the commercial Pick Up segment when it comes to modernity. The Mahindra Genio Pick Up Truck is available for an ex-showroom price of INR 4.99 Lakhs for the BS3 version. Now, all this leaves me wondering as to why Mahindra chose not to give the Mahindra Thar, which is targeted at the lifestyle audience, the levels of fit & finish and the interior comforts that even a commercial vehicle like the Genio offers.
