comfort taxi:Ford Motors will debut its Transit Connect Taxis in March. The company noted that the Taxi Medallion Management purchased the 12 clean-burning compressed natural gas Transit Connect Taxis for its fleet.
Taxi Medallion Management CEO Michael Levine said that the purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%. The taxies will be delivered to Taxi Medallion Management by the Ford dealership, Packey Webb Ford, of Downers Grove, Ill.
The Transit Connect Taxi was introduced last year as a production vehicle. Since its launch, the vehicle gained interest from taxi operators around the country. The first taxi was delivered to Boston Cab Dispatch in December 2010, the company noted.
Ford Motors said that the Transit Connect Taxi package adds comfort to the passengers with a repositioned second-row seat for more legroom, grab handles and a rear ventilation system with passenger controls. In addition to the comfortable driving environment, the new features in the vehicle include rear view camera and back-up sensor, heavy-duty battery and wiring block connector, which will help to power upfitted accessories.
The standard Ford Transit Connect is powered by a 2.0-liter I-4 engine that can deliver an estimated EPA of 21 mpg in city and 26 mpg in highway. In addition to CNG, Transit Connect Taxi is available with an engine preparation package for conversion to liquefied propane gas.
