Breast Cancer Awareness I Like It: latest news about Breast Cancer Awareness I Like It updates, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, practiced every October, is an attempt to spread awareness about this most prevalent disease among women. According to statistic, soon one in every 14 female children will have the possibility to develop, Breast Cancer. In most cases, due to lack of awareness, Breast Cancer is diagnosed only at a much later stage.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was founded by AstraZeneca in the year 1985. They manufactured drugs like Arimidex and Tamoxifen. Their aim of starting the Breast Cancer Awareness Month was to promote mammography as the most effective treatment.

In the year 1993, Evelyn Lauder, founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and also introduced the symbol of the Pink Ribbon. The Pink Ribbon, there on went on to become the official symbol.

Research has been going on since all these years. Experts have said that the ailment is the result of certain changes in DNA which can change normal breast cells into being cancerous. There are genes which can prevent the formation of Breast Cancer. Any changes in these gene’s, allow the cancerous cells to form, thus leading to the ailment. The answer to what brings on these changes has not been found yet.

Everyone is probably seeing those status updates on Facebook for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, saying things like “I like it in the car” or “I like it on the kitchen table.” These are actually referring to the locations of where you like to keep your purse, despite sounding undeniably s1xual. This is supposed to somehow raise “breast cancer awareness.” I, for one, have the following questions/objections:

1. What exactly is there to be aware about? I am pretty sure that everyone knows about cancer by now, especially breast cancer. If you know about breast cancer, you probably know you should get mammograms on a regular basis, do self checks, etc. What else is there really to be… aware of? Yes, breast cancer exists and it can/has killed people so you should get checkups… let’s continue on with our lives now, alright?

2. Isn’t it partially insulting to breast cancer survivors/non-survivors to do this in such a s1xually-charged manner? Facebook did this last year too with women making their status a single color, for the color of the bra they were wearing. Why do all of these ways to raise “awareness” have to be s1xually charged? Would there be a “Save the Nuts!” campaign for testicular cancer? How about a “Save the Assholes!” campaign for prostate cancer? Why should breasts get this special treatment (other than their obvious awesomeness)? It’d be much less disrespectful to copy+paste into your status “Be aware of the risks! Learn about breast cancer!” with a link to an informative website.
